Jeffrey Armstrong Trio

Welgemeend Concert, Wednesday, 26 August 2026, 19h, Welgemend Manor The three South African musicians Jeffrey Armstrong, Nicola McLachlan and Henley Jun have been long time collaborators, performing in many different forms since high school. Now all based in Germany, they return back home and reunite once more for this diverse, exciting programme. In an unusual pairing of duo and trio repertoire, they presents three great works of the romantic canon in different constellations. Schubert’s largest violin sonata is a work that showcases melody writing at its best, with equal doses of humour, drama, and intimacy. Debussy’s sonata for cello and piano shines a light on a new set of colours for the evening; with similar verve and energy, but in a distinctly different musical language. After the interval, all three musicians come together to play one of the most well-loved works of the piano trio repertoire; Mendelssohn’s d minor trio. All three instruments are given the chance to sing freely, but it is the pianist who now has a chance to shine in Mendelssohn’s fantastically virtuosic writing.
