Noose (aka The Silk Noose)

When a woman’s body is found in the Thames, fashion reporter Linda Medbury (Landis, in her last screen role) takes on the black marketeer behind the murder and, with her fiancé’s help, sabotages his operation. Joseph Calleia gives a chilling performance as the gangster, but the film belongs to Nigel Patrick as his chirpy spiv sidekick, reprising the role he created on the West End stage. Gréville introduces an array of stylistic flourishes that raise the film above its slightly uneven melange of styles and tones, and hint at the lyricism of his French films.
