The program combines theory and practice across all stages of podcast planning, production and distribution, alternating between in-person and virtual sessions. Under the curation of journalist Gabriela Mayer, the course brings together industry experts to guide participants through seven structured modules covering sector overview through practical content production. Module 1 – What is a podcast The introductory module covers podcast fundamentals across two sessions: Session 1: History of the medium, its development in Brazil, common program formats, market overview and funding options. Session 2: Steps to move your podcast from concept to reality. Project preparation, research, feasibility analysis and tips for structuring a season. Module 2 - Starting your podcast Covers initial production stages from research to interview recording across three sessions: Session 1: Research as a core element of podcast production—finding strong stories and planning logistics to ensure smooth execution. Initial reporting with sources, archives and collections. Session 2: Copyright and what can or cannot be used in a podcast. Rules for music licensing and legal requirements across different platforms. Session 3: Recording equipment overview. Techniques and optimal parameters for in-person recording. Platforms and parameters for remote recording. Module 3 – Podcast scripting Explores formats and scripting techniques across five sessions: Session 1: Information responsibility. Foundations and principles for consistent, compelling scripts committed to accuracy and factual content. Session 2: Building interview scripts. Structuring questions to create narrative flow in conversation. Introduction to panel discussion formats. Session 3: Narrative scripting and its various techniques, models and formats. Principles for complete scripts with clear objectives, combining text and sound elements. Session 4: Advanced narrative scripting. Incorporating historical elements into podcasts. Session 5: Fiction scripting techniques. Using narrative and fantasy in text and sound resources available in fiction. Module 4 – Presenting your podcast Two sessions focus on voice use and podcast presentation: Session 1: Narration for podcasts. Voice techniques and text interpretation for storytelling. Session 2: Discussion on presenting podcasts in panel or interview formats, covering preparation, conversational approach and factors that support or hinder interview conduct. Module 5 – Editing your podcast The fifth module addresses editing across three sessions detailing audio techniques and principles: Session 1: Audio editing basics, covering editing software, common tools and fundamental techniques for working with sound waves. Session 2: Sound processing tools for audio adjustment, finalization and sound resource use.
