Internationally acclaimed pianist Sarah Grunstein
About the event
Praised by The New York Times for her “penetrating musical intelligence”, internationally acclaimed Australian pianist Sarah Grunstein has performed in the United States, Austria, Hungary, Italy, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, and her homeland. Reviews have likened her performances to those of Dame Myra Hess, Harold Samuel, and Wanda Landowska. As a Steinway Artist who trained at the Sydney Conservatorium and The Juilliard School, she is passionate about historic pianos and Bach improvisation. A sought-after pianist and educator inspired by historical performance interpretations, Sarah Grunstein has taught at The Juilliard School as Teaching Fellow, the Manhattan School of Music, the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, and the City University of New York. The Goldberg Variations is one of the most celebrated keyboard works by Johann Sebastian Bach, written around 1741. It consists of an opening aria, thirty variations, and a return of the aria at the end. Sarah Grunstein is widely admired for her interpretations of the Goldberg Variations, particularly for her clarity, emotional intelligence, and individuality. Critics and audiences have praised her performances as deeply thoughtful mesmerising, tempestuous, and technically commanding. She returns to Australia to perform at the Sydney Opera House in 2026.
