About the event

Writers of all genres turn, occasionally, to letter-writing or the “epistle” in their creative work. Through a selection of readings and writing prompts, this class will investigate the reasons for this turn and what effects letter-writing can have in one’s work and creative practice. We will consider the hopeful risk involved in sending a letter, as it may never find its recipient; and how the act of writing can deepen connections, strengthen curiosity, and give rise to action. -- This class is generously funded by the Canadian Poetry Fund a local donor-advised fund which fosters accessible public educational outreach for poetry and other forms of creative writing through the services of the Vancouver Public Library -- This program is presented in partnership with Room Magazine as part of their Read the Room Festival a celebration of 50 years of Room Magazine -- Edie Reaney Chunn is a writer, musician, and playwright who enjoys working collaboratively & inefficiently on theatre projects, and other pursuits. Edie lives on the unceded land of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh), and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) Nations. -- Accessibility: VPL is committed to making our programs accessible for all. If you have an access need that we have not addressed here, please email us at programs@vpl.ca. This program is accessible by the public elevators on Level 2. The expected noise level is moderate. Quiet Tables are available for patrons who would prefer to enjoy the class without talking to others. For more information on physical access, view the Accessibility information on the Central Library page.
