The Legends of Sunbury

Bird's Basement

About the event

Featuring the cream of Australian artists, Sunbury was touted as the Rock Happening of its time. Madder Lake opened the 1973 festival to a rapturous response. They went on to support the Rolling Stones on their Australian Tour later that year and were the first act to be signed to Mushroom Records. Next up was Mike Rudd’s Spectrum, arguably Australia’s most popular Progressive Rock Act. Mike was later to record at the famous Abbey Road Studios in England with another of his bands, Ariel, who controversially returned from the UK to play at the last Sunbury.
