21.08, Friday, 7 PM | Conversation "Video Art in Brazil: History, Language and Practices"
As part of the parallel programming for the exhibition "Território de passagem" by artist Ruchita, MIS presents the conversation "Video Art in Brazil: History, Language and Practices". The activity proposes a discussion on the importance of video art as an aesthetic language in contemporary art, based on excerpts from historical works in the MIS collection and other reference materials. The focus is on Brazilian production from the 1970s to 2000s. The conversation features artist Márcia Beatriz Granero, curator Brunno Almeida Maia and artist Ruchita.
Participants
Ruchita is a multimedia artist working in photography, installation, video and performance. A graduate in audiovisual communication from International Fine Arts College in Miami, she conducts research into existential questions, exploring relationships between time, space and perception. She has held solo exhibitions including "Estou/Sou" (2024, Centro Municipal de Artes Hélio Oiticica) and "Face à Impermanência" (2023, Museu da Imagem e do Som de Santa Catarina), and participated in exhibitions in Brazil and abroad. Her videos and video artworks have been included in more than twenty international festivals, with selections and awards in cities such as Paris, Milan, London, Tokyo and New York.
Márcia Beatriz Granero is a visual artist, researcher and curator, trained at Faculdade Belas Artes de São Paulo. She develops her work primarily in video art, a medium to which she also dedicates her research on pioneering women in Brazil. She was the creator and mediator of the "VideoArtePapo" program, held at MIS between 2020 and 2023, and curated exhibitions including "Vídeo, substantivo feminino" (2022, Pinacoteca de São Bernardo do Campo), "Videoarte: Acervo MIS" (2022, MIS-SP) and "Mostra Basileña: pioneiras da videoarte" (2024, Madrid, Spain). She also works in the training of artists and researchers through courses, workshops and video art dissemination projects.
Brunno Almeida Maia is a researcher, curator and professor. A doctoral candidate in architecture and urbanism at FAU-USP and master's degree holder in philosophy from Unifesp, he is the author of "Tempos de exceção: ensaios sobre o contemporâneo" (2025, n-1 edições) and conducts research in fashion, architecture and visual culture. 22.08, Saturday, 10 AM to 6 PM | Workshop "Between Body and Image: Video Art Experiments"
As part of the parallel programming for the exhibition "Territórios de passagem" by artist Ruchita, MIS presents the workshop "Between Body and Image: Video Art Experiments", led by curator Brunno Almeida Maia, with participation by the artist herself. The activity proposes an introductory and experimental immersion in video art and performance, with the body as the central axis of investigation.
The workshop begins with a lecture conducted by the exhibition curator, addressing the relationship between image and body in art history, followed by an open conversation with the public about Ruchita's creative process. In the afternoon, participants are invited to develop practical experiments in video art using accessible devices, such as mobile phones, based on a common prompt related to personal memories, body and time. The experiments may take place in the museum's interior spaces...
