This dance performance about female identity and Eastern expression can be seen at Plein Theater. Inspired by the stories of Asian migrant women in Amsterdam, Opium Flower weaves Eastern body language with contemporary dance and live music, becoming a poetic and powerful expression of identity, memory, and sexuality in a uniquely personal way. The work explores female identity, emotional memory, and the invisible structures surrounding the female body in both Eastern and Western cultures. Inspired by the symbolic meaning of the opium flower—beauty, fragility, seduction, and silence—the performance unfolds as a poetic physical landscape between dream and reality.
Through contemporary dance, live music, visual imagery, and theatrical composition, the performers move through states of intimacy, restraint, transformation, and resistance. The choreography is influenced by Chinese philosophy, breathing techniques, and the contemporary European dance language.
Instead of presenting folklore or cultural illustrations, OPIUM FLOWER seeks a contemporary, intercultural movement language in which silence, timing, space, and inner tension become central elements.
The performance combines abstraction with emotional presence and invites the audience into a sensory world where personal memory and collective history converge.
