In Conversation with Ramesh Mario Nithiyendran
About the event
Join us for a special In Conversation event with acclaimed contemporary artist, ceramicist, and UNSW academic, Ramesh Mario Nithiyendran, one of Australia’s most distinctive and internationally recognised artistic voices. Known for his exuberant, large-scale ceramic sculptures and experimental practice, Nithiyendran challenges conventional ideas of identity, power, gender, spirituality and representation through works that are both playful and provocative. In this engaging discussion, Nithiyendran will reflect on the evolution of his practice, from his early experiments with clay to major exhibitions and public commissions presented across Australia and internationally. The conversation will explore the role of making, materiality and cultural narratives in his work, as well as the opportunities and challenges of building a contemporary art practice today. Offering rare insights into his creative process, influences and professional journey, this event provides an inspiring opportunity for artists, designers, students and the wider community to hear directly from one of the most influential figures shaping contemporary ceramics and visual culture. Audience questions will follow the conversation.
