The BVL audiovisual course on podcast production returns for its second edition, serving those who wish to develop an original project or understand how one of today's most dynamic media works. The program combines theory and practice across all stages of planning, production and publishing, alternating between in-person and virtual sessions. Curated by journalist Gabriela Mayer, the course brings together recognized industry professionals to guide participants through seven structured modules covering sector overview through hands-on content production. Module 1 – What is a podcast The introductory module covers podcast fundamentals across two sessions: Session 1: History of the medium, its development in Brazil, common program formats, market overview and funding options. Session 2: Steps to bring a podcast concept to life. Preparation, research, preliminary analysis, project feasibility review and tips for structuring a season. Module 2 - Starting a podcast Covers initial production stages from research to interview recording across three sessions: Session 1: Research—finding compelling stories and planning logistics to ensure smooth execution. Initial reporting with sources, archives and collections. Session 2: Copyright and what can or cannot be used in a podcast. Rules for soundtrack use and legal requirements across different platforms. Session 3: Recording equipment overview. Techniques and optimal parameters for in-person recording. Platforms and parameters for remote recording. Module 3 – Podcast scripting Explores formats and scripting techniques across five sessions: Session 1: Information responsibility. Foundations and principles for consistent, engaging scripts committed to content accuracy. Session 2: Building interview scripts. Structuring questions to create narrative flow in conversation. Introduction to panel-cast scripts. Session 3: Narrative scripting and its various techniques, models and formats. Principles for complete scripts with clear objectives, combining text and sound elements. Session 4: Deepening narrative scripting. Incorporating historical elements into podcasts. Session 5: Fiction scripting techniques. Using narrative and fantasy in text and sound resources available in fiction. Module 4 – Presenting a podcast Two sessions focus on voice use and podcast presentation: Session 1: Narration for podcasts. Exploring voice techniques and text interpretation for storytelling. Session 2: Panel discussion on podcast presentation in panel-cast or interview formats, covering preparation importance, conversational approach and factors that help or hinder interview conduct. Module 5 – Editing the podcast The fifth module covers editing across three sessions detailing techniques and audio work principles: Session 1: Audio editing basics, introducing editing software, common tools and fundamental techniques for working with sound waves. Session 2: Sound treatment tools for audio adjustment, finalization and sound resource use.
