Bach's Christmas Oratorio by Nederlands Kamerkoor and Cappella Mediterranea
About the event
According to the Argentine conductor Leonardo García Alarcón, time does not exist and music enables us to bring the souls of composers back to life. He does so tonight with the Netherlands Chamber Choir and his own baroque orchestra Cappella Mediterranea in Bach's magnificent musical Christmas story: the Christmas Oratorio. Bach's Christmas Oratorio
Bach's Christmas Oratorio is an annual anchor point for the Netherlands Chamber Choir. From jubilant joy in the trumpets to a lullaby from the English horns: in his musical Christmas story, Bach employs compelling contrasts. He combined the six cantatas he wrote for Christmas Day, the second, and the third day of Christmas, for New Year's Day, the Sunday after New Year, and for Epiphany into a single work: his magnificent Christmas Oratorio.
Netherlands Chamber Choir and Cappella Mediterranea
Traditionally, the Netherlands Chamber Choir performs Bach's Christmas Oratorio in the Main Hall every year. Each performance is different, if only because the choir invites a different ensemble each time. This winter, Leonardo García Alarcón conducts his own baroque orchestra, Cappella Mediterranea. Alarcón: 'Like some physicists, I believe that time does not exist and that music enables us to bring the souls of composers back to life.'
