Lecture: A Material Exploration of Mary Cassatt’s Printmaking Process
About the event
From soft-ground etching and drypoint to groundbreaking color prints, Mary Cassatt’s printmaking techniques evolved through technical leaps and creative experimentation. A close look at the artist's Set of Ten, a landmark series of color intaglio prints, reveals both her artistic ingenuity and the importance of her collaboration with printer Modeste Leroy. Join Gillian Marcus, associate conservator at the Newberry Library, to examine these works as well as the materials, partnerships, and techniques that defined Mary Cassatt’s printing process.
Generously supported by the Bernice and Seymour Nordenberg Fund.
