When AI Insiders Blow the Whistle: How Worried Should We Be? (Brussels AGI Collective)
About the event
AI has been all over the news these past months. This summer, hundreds of AI agents at OpenAI teamed up and broke into another company's systems, without OpenAI noticing. In September, a researcher quit Anthropic, accusing the leading labs of recklessness, and a senior colleague put the chance of human extinction from AI at more than 10% within the next decade. What these stories have in common is the claim that AI development has become dangerous, to the point, some say, of threatening humanity's survival, and that work at the frontier should slow down as a result. On Monday 19 October, from 18:00 at Atelier 29, we will take an evening to make sense of this moment together and separate the hype from what is real: from what has actually happened and how seriously to take it, to what it means for Europe and what those of us outside the labs can usefully do.
Schedule 18:00 | Arrivals 18:15 | Presentation and fireside chat (speaker will soon be announced) 19:20 | Reception: Continue the conversation over drinks. Please RSVP as space is limited. Looking forward to seeing you!
This event is organised by the Brussels AGI Collective, a community of policy experts, researchers, and people from across civil society exploring what advanced AI means for Europe's future. We are supported by BlueDot Impact, a nonprofit dedicated to advancing AI safety by training and connecting talented people to work on technical, policy, and societal challenges.
