Five Graves to Cairo

Corporal Bramble is the last survivor from his unit, staggering through an endless desert until a run-down hotel emerges on the horizon. He assumes the identity of a dead staff member, hiding in plain sight from the threat of German soldiers, only to find his new disguise carries secrets of its own. Five Graves to Cairo features a serpentine plot, the trademark dark wit of a screenplay co-written by Wilder and Charles Brackett, and a delicate balance of farce, thriller and dramatic heft. Screen: NFT2.
