Come stargazing on the rooftop terrace of the NHOW Hotel RAI. Here, the Amsterdam Public Observatory sets up special telescopes so you can see the night sky up close. Volunteers are present to provide explanations and answer all your questions about the universe. Everyone is welcome.
Which planets and stars do you see?
In October, the sun sets around 7:00 PM, and from 8:10 PM onwards, it is dark enough to look through the telescopes. In clear weather, you can see the rings of the planet Saturn and special objects such as the Large Hercules Cluster, the Ring Nebula, and the Pleiades. You will learn exactly what these are and how to recognize them during the evening.
The moon doesn't rise until 9:00 PM, so you can view it later in the evening. If it is cloudy, you can come watch a demonstration in the hotel restaurant. You can also order a snack or a drink there. Although we hope for clear weather, the demonstration is certainly worth a visit as well. With special software, it is just like floating through the universe.
