Before Sunset
About the event
Nine years after their chance encounter in Vienna, American author Jesse and French environmentalist Céline cross paths once more in a Paris bookstore on the final leg of Jesse’s European book tour. With barely an hour before Jesse must catch his flight back to the United States, the pair wander through sunlit Parisian alleyways, quiet cafes, and a barge along the Seine. As their casual catch-up unfolds in near real-time, playful conversation rapidly gives way to an intimate confrontation with lost time, unfulfilled promises, and the quiet regrets of adulthood. Nominated for the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay, Richard Linklater’s second entry in his seminal Before trilogy is a masterpiece of naturalistic, dialogue-driven cinema. Co-written by Linklater, Ethan Hawke, and Julie Delpy, the film builds extraordinary emotional tension through razor-sharp honesty, precise pacing, and effortless chemistry between its leads. In English. Rated NC16.
