Staircase Sounds: Lache Cercel & The Roma Jazz Ensemble
About the event
Our monthly concert series Staircase Sounds returns to the Central Library for a third season of free public concerts that celebrate the incredible diversity of Vancouver's musical communities. The second performance in this series will feature Lache Cercel & the Roma Jazz Ensemble. Originally from Bucharest, Romania, Lache Cercel developed a love of jazz through a smuggled Stéphane Grappelli tape. Today, this master violinist's music is a merging of his roots and Eastern influences with western musicology. Firmly grounded in Roma (Gypsy) musical traditions, he combines this unique sound with klezmer, Middle Eastern, and European traditions, all held together with jazz improvisation. He calls this dynamic and beguiling fusion Roma Swing. The Roma Jazz Ensemble features fantastic players from all over the world, coming together in Vancouver to breathe life into Lache Cercel's unique musical world. - Live Music at VPL is generously funded by VPL Foundation donors.
