Zahra Ebrahim: Women, Walking
About the event
What is it like to move through the world on foot, as a woman? Women, Walking is a new anthology that explores the broad spectrum of women’s experiences and perspectives on walking. The list of contributors includes writers Jenny Odell, Miriam Toews, Andrea Gibson, Zalika Reid-Benta, Janika Oza, Ann-Marie MacDonald, and Catherine Hernandez — each offering reflections on the deep significance that can be found in an ordinary walk. Come hear the anthology's co-editor Zahra Ebrahim discuss how to lose yourself (or find yourself) in a walk, with poet Sheryda Warrener. – Zahra Ebrahim is currently an Urbanist-in-Residence at the University of Toronto’s School of Cities, and an Adjunct Professor at the Daniels School of Architecture. Zahra is currently the Vice-Chair of the Toronto Arts Council, and has served on a range of local and national boards focused on driving positive social outcomes. She is the co-editor of Messy Cities and Women, Walking. Sheryda Warrener is the author of the poetry collections Hard Feelings, Floating Is Everything, and most recently, Test Piece, which was shortlisted for the Dorothy Livesay Prize. She is a lecturer in the School of Creative Writing at UBC, and is the creator of the Provocation Collection, a series of material prompts for writers designed in collaboration with artists. – Accessibility: VPL is committed to making our programs accessible for all.
