Workshop | Art, Play and Participation

This workshop explores different relationships between art, education, and play culture. Starting from the pedagogical toys of 19th-century kindergartens and their influence on 20th-century art, it discusses contributions by artists, architects, and educators to the creation of playful spaces, objects, and experiences. Over the sessions, the history of playgrounds, the work of artists and architects who studied play as a field of investigation and creation, and the politicization of play within cultural movements of the 1960s and 1970s are presented, with special attention to the Latin American context. Every meeting includes a collective creative experience proposed and led by artist Gui Teixeira. Advance registration is required. The Pina Contemporânea workshop series is an educational initiative that aims to provide a space for experimentation for the general public, encouraging dialogue, socialization, and sharing of experiences.
