Free Museum Day 2026
About the event
The 29th Annual Austin Museum Day is a free celebration of art, culture, history, music, nature, and science.
Over thirty museums in the greater Austin area will welcome visitors with special programming including guided and self-guided exhibition tours, activities, and more for visitors of all ages. This is an annual project to elevate the arts in Austin, [click here for a list of participating museums](https://www.austinmuseums.org/this-years-amd).
Since there is so much to see for one day all over the city, this is a choose your own adventure kind of experience. If you want others to find you at a particular museum, drop info in the comments.
My 2026 museum plan: 10A - start at the newly renovated ESB Mexican American Cultural Center.
Noon - get to the Harry Ransom Center to check out their exhibition of Houdini’s Library!
Afternoon - finish out the day at the LBJ Presidential Library. I’m being vague about the time on this last one since I don’t know how long the Ransom Center will take me to cover. Will update about the LBJ the day of.
