Pygmalion and Raphaël Pichon in Mozart's Requiem in C
About the event
The early music ensemble Pygmalion and its chief conductor Raphaël Pichon are familiar faces at the Concertgebouw. With its musical sensitivity and dramaturgical flair, the French group manages to surprise ears time and again. This time, they do so with Mozart's Unfinished Mass in C, one of his most brilliant works. Pygmalion and Raphael Pichon
They know the Great Hall like the back of their hand by now: the musicians of Pygmalion, one of the most sparkling ensembles in historical performance practice. Under the direction of their chief conductor and founder Raphaël Pichon, they manage to surprise time and again. With great musical sensitivity and dramaturgical flair, the French group uncovers new layers in familiar works. Precision and imagination are key words in this process. Pichon’s curiosity and creative vision regularly lead to surprising and compelling interpretations that make the audience listen differently to music that is sometimes centuries old.
Mozart's Mass in C
The delivery had gone well; the baby, Raimund Leopold, was born healthy. Mozart had promised his Constanze to write a mass once their first child was born, and he set to work immediately. But then disaster struck: while Wolfgang was working on 'Et incarnatus est', Raimund suddenly lay dead in his cradle… The unfinished mass was performed in Salzburg in 1783, with Mozart’s wife Constanze as first soprano; in this way, Mozart introduced Constanze into his family. The Unfinished Mass in C major is among Mozart’s most brilliant works.
