In 'De Herontdekking van de Hemel' (The Rediscovery of Heaven), writer and performer Manu van Kersbergen explores the power of language in a world that is increasingly fragmenting. From the perspective of a father attempting to explain to his children what is happening around them, he weaves together personal stories with themes such as racism, conflict, and identity. The production was nominated for a Theo d'Or and the Annie M.G. Schmidt Prize, and was included in the official selection of both the Dutch and Flemish Theatre Juries. On stage, a layered live set unfolds in which beats, bass lines, and words support and challenge one another. Niels Broos on keyboards, Freek Mulder on bass, and Aron Smit on drums form the soundscape upon which Manu builds his poetic story: theater and live band as an inseparable whole. After previous performances at North Sea Jazz, the Nederlands Theater Festival, and Boulevard, he is now bringing the show to the venue for its final season.
