Jasper Blom, Felix Schlarmann & Sean Fasciani – WonderYears
About the event
Three improvisers rediscover the work of one of the most creative songwriters of all time, Stevie Wonder. His irresistible mix of grooves, catchy melodies, and subtle jazz influences proves to be an ideal breeding ground for improvisation. Fifty years after the release of 'Songs in the Key of Life', Jasper Blom on saxophone, Sean Fasciani on double bass, and Felix Schlarmann on drums bring this repertoire back to life on their album 'Wonderyears', in the open trio lineup of saxophone, double bass, and drums. Wonder Years
Stevie Wonder caused a musical earthquake in the 1970s: in a short space of time, he released a series of legendary albums, virtually all compositions of which became global hits and have since been part of our collective memory. Jasper Blom, Sean Fasciani, and Felix Schlarmann use the characteristic melodies and rich harmonies as a starting point for contemporary arrangements: sometimes they allow the original song to clearly come to the fore, at other times they branch out into rhythmically and harmonically adventurous vistas. Iconic melodies alternate with ecstatic bursts of improvisation. 'Wonderyears' will be released on October 8 on DOX records.
