About the event
Sound Journey in Support of Russian Women Political Prisoners 📍 Rosebank 🗓 Sunday, August 23 Doors open: 5:45 PM Journey begins: 6:00 PM Join us for an evening of deep rest, meditation, and immersive sound healing with crystal singing bowls. This is an invitation to slow down, reconnect with yourself, and spend an evening in a peaceful community while supporting an important cause. All proceeds from this event will go directly toward supporting Russian women political prisoners. Suggested contribution: R500 If that's not possible for you right now, please reach out. Everyone is welcome, and we don't want finances to be a barrier. What to bring • A yoga mat • Comfortable, warm clothing • A water bottle if you'd like If you don't have a yoga mat, we'll provide you with one, kindly let us know beforehand. What to expect Before: Please try not to eat a heavy meal for about two hours before the session, as you'll be lying comfortably on your back throughout the journey. During the session, you'll be surrounded by the sounds and vibrations of crystal singing bowls and other healing instruments. Many people experience deep relaxation, meditation, emotional release, vivid imagery, or simply a wonderful nap. Every experience is different, and there is no right or wrong way to receive the sounds. Come without expectations and simply allow yourself to rest. Afterwards, it's a good idea to drink plenty of water and, if possible, keep the rest of your evening gentle. Many people enjoy journaling, having a nourishing meal, or simply taking things slowly as the experience settles. Who is this for? This evening is open to anyone longing for stillness, rest, and a chance to reconnect with themselves. No previous meditation or sound healing experience is needed. About the host Varya is a sound healing practitioner and community organizer with the Cape Town chapter of Feminist Anti-War Resistance. She believes that healing and solidarity belong together. Through sound journeys, she creates spaces where people can slow down, reconnect with themselves, and cultivate compassion—for themselves and for others. This fundraiser brings together two things close to her heart: the restorative power of sound and supporting those who have paid the price for standing up against war and authoritarianism. About Feminist Anti-War Resistance Feminist Anti-War Resistance (FAR) is an international grassroots feminist movement founded on 25 February 2022, the day after Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. It brings together activists inside Russia and around the world who oppose war, dictatorship, militarism, and all forms of violence. FAR supports political prisoners, assists vulnerable communities affected by the war, advocates for human rights, and works toward a future built on peace, equality, and democracy. The Cape Town chapter is part of this international network and organizes community events, educational initiatives, and fundraisers in support of these efforts. About the cause Hundreds of people in Russia are imprisoned for peacefully opposing the war or speaking out against the government, and many of them are women. They include journalists, artists, teachers, students, activists, and ordinary citizens. Women political prisoners often face particularly difficult conditions in detention, including isolation, denial of adequate medical care, psychological pressure, and threats of gender-based violence. Many are separated from their children and families for years. Funds raised through this event help provide practical support such as legal assistance, care packages, letters, and financial aid for political prisoners and their loved ones—small but meaningful reminders…
