In the 1950s, modern furniture design was still predominantly in the hands of architects—the exhibition features designs by renowned Austrian architects. Furthermore, Austrian furniture design was characterized by high-quality craftsmanship, sustainable materials, a variety of forms, and good design—even in affordable products. While mid-century design from Italy, Scandinavia, and the United States remains widely recognized today, the distinctive features and qualities of post-war Austrian furniture design are to be brought back into the spotlight.
