Let’s consider:
1. What do we actually mean by "implicit bias" — an unconscious attitude, a behavioural tendency, or just a pattern in aggregate outcomes? Does the argument change depending on which one we have in mind?
2. Can you hold an attitude you sincerely disavow? If so, what does that suggest about how much authority we have over our own minds?
3. Is bias best understood as something located in a person, or as a property of situations and institutions that produce biased outcomes from people acting in good faith?
4. Are we morally responsible for dispositions we can't introspect or directly control? Is there a useful distinction between being blameworthy for a bias and being accountable for its effects?
5. Historically, many areas of medical and psychological research have been based primarily on male participants, with results assumed to apply equally to women. What does this reveal about implicit bias in science? How should researchers balance practicality with the need for representative evidence?
6. Should we trust our intuitions when making important decisions about people—such as hiring, admissions, or jury verdicts—or should we rely as much as possible on structured rules and evidence? What are the trade-offs?
7. Is it possible to eliminate implicit bias, or is the goal simply to become aware of it and reduce its effects?
8. How should we respond when someone points out that one of our actions may have been influenced by implicit bias? Is intent more important than impact, or vice versa?

We aim for a cooperative flow, like passing a ball among teammates rather than engaging in back-and-forth debates. Please share the “ball” so everyone has a voice.
2. Brief Points (2-3 Minutes)
Keep points concise so we can hear a variety of perspectives. Occasional exceptions may come up naturally, but our goal is inclusivity.
3. No Crosstalk
Respect the speaker’s time without interjecting or questioning mid-speech. If you’d like to add something, simply raise your hand and the facilitator will guide the flow.
4. Avoid Ad Hominem Remarks
Focus critiques on ideas, actions, or beliefs—not people. For example, say “This idea could have certain impacts” rather than “You’re wrong.” This ensures a respectful environment.
5. Respectful Engagement
As we are guests in someone’s home, let’s maintain a high level of respect for the space and one another. Mindfulness, patience, and courtesy are essential to making this gathering comfortable and enjoyable for all.
6. Cancellation Courtesy
