Memory as a Rock Out of Reach: EMA and Tabitha Nikolai
About the event
Artist/musician Erika M. Anderson (EMA) and visual artist Tabitha Nikolai premiere Memory As A Rock Out Of Reach, an hour long duet performance that uses video game technologies to build out the psycho-sexual inner world of a girl-child in the ’80s. Soundtracked by modular synth and guitar, a narrator searches for her shape amid commercial detritus, degraded 3D scans of suburbia, and a Polly Pocket apocalypse.

Erika M. Anderson (EMA) and Tabitha Nikolai create live digital experiences that transcend genre. With a mixed background of DIY music, art, and hacked together immersive technology, the duo investigate the potential for visceral, emotive storytelling using tools often reserved for slick AAA sedation. Their individual work has been featured in places like MoMA PS1, the Barbican Centre, and the Journal of Gaming and Virtual Worlds.
