Mu Meson Film Nights: Dead End Drive-In
About the event
Enter the neon-lit world of Dead End Drive-In, Brian Trenchard-Smith's cult Australian film that blends dystopian science fiction, punk attitude and action-packed storytelling. The film follows Jimmy 'Crabs' Rossini and his girlfriend Carmen on a trip to the Star Drive-in. What begins as a night at the movies quickly turns into a fight for freedom when they discover that the authorities have transformed it into a detention centre for unemployed young people. Surrounded by electrified fences and kept docile with junk food, music and movies, Crabs becomes determined to escape. Following the screening, Jay Katz and Miss Death of Mu Meson will present a brief history of Brian Trenchard-Smith's films and the rise and fall of drive-in cinemas in Australia, including some of the stranger UFO and UAP stories associated with drive-ins. A pre-recorded contribution from director Brian Trenchard-Smith is also planned. The evening is presented and hosted by Jay Katz and Miss Death of Mu Meson, Sydney cult-film curators known for uncovering forgotten, overlooked and unconventional cinema and bringing it back to audiences in new contexts. Join us for a night of dystopian Australian cult cinema, drive-in nostalgia and strange stories from the outer edges of movie-going history.
