Eleanor Ford's The Nutmeg Trail
About the event
Long before traders and sea captains risked everything to cross uncharted oceans, a handful of bark, seeds, and pods was worth more than gold. In *The Nutmeg Trail*, culinary historian Eleanor Ford charts this ancient "maritime silk road," revealing how a global obsession with spice permanently united the kitchens of the Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, and East Africa.
Instead of a standard country-by-country breakdown, Ford cracks open the actual mechanics of flavor, grouping recipes by spice personalities—from the fiery kick of ginger to the intoxicating warmth of nutmeg. It’s an incredible, hands-on look at how a few vibrant ingredients can completely alter the architecture of a dish.
For our potluck, please choose a recipe from *The Nutmeg Trail*. Let us know what dish or dishes you plan to bring in the comments for this event.
If your RSVP includes +1 guest, please plan to bring at least two dishes from the cookbook. The target number of attendees and dishes is 12.
We ask that you only RSVP if you fully plan to show up. If fate deems you must change your plans, please update your RSVP as soon as you are certain. We want members on the waitlist to have time to prepare.
I ask that guests to my home have their true identity in their member profile - a photograph that looks like you and a name you prefer to be called.
Please feel free to send a direct message if you have questions.
