About the event
Beyond Monogamy SA presents: Cruising for Convos A night of questionable conversation cues, plus a dance floor, cuddles and snacks Convo Cue Cards | Foreplay | Pillow Talk | Body Language | Oral Fixation | Facilitators & Safety Monitors Wednesday 7 October, 18h30 to 21h30Fruition House, 388 Albert Road, Woodstock (across from the Old Biscuit Mill) From R80 (early bird until Wed 30 September) Led by Amy Nelson, Ancois Human-Nelson and Salma Kathrada In queer history, cruising was a finely tuned system for hooking up with strangers. Cruising for Convos is the spin-off for the conversation hos (both introverts and EXTRAS), the ones who can go for hours and come home aching for more. It's also for shy gwurls who fantasise about long, deep, stimulating convos, but get choked up in the moment. So what's the vibe?Everyone arrives and gets a pack of convo cue cards, but before we get loose, we'll welcome everyone, talk boundaries and consent, and start with a casual facilitated group discussion. Then it's game on, and the challenge is to cruise through the space and converse with everyone in the room. When you approach someone, they'll choose a category, for example Casual, Embarrassing, Flattering, Deep, Personal or Saucy. Once they've chosen, you ask them the question from your card, and you switch once they're done. You can work the whole room like it owes you an anecdote, or settle into one conversation that goes all night. There are spaces to move through with different vibes: the dance floor (for body language), the cuddle puddle (for pillow talk), the snack bar (for your oral fixation), and the courtyard (if you wanna take it outside). As the evening flows, the team will be floating about and checking in. All three of us are safety monitors, and Amy and Salma are trained in holding space and first-line emotional support. On the night, that means helping you take a break, settle if things feel like too much, or step in if someone crosses a boundary. We're also there to make sure nobody feels left out or overwhelmed. The evening is for anyone redefining love, relationships or identity, and it's built to include queer, neurodivergent, nonmonogamous and minority folk. Here, being different is normal, and nobody needs you to explain yourself. Pre-order snacks! We'll have a few nibbles available, but you might want a little more to munch. When you buy your ticket, Ancois will contact you with some light food options. Pre-orders close on Monday 5 October. The evening18h00 Doors open18h30 Doors close. Pick up your cards and a hot drink.19h00 Foreplay. Amy, Ancois and Salma lead a facilitated warm-up.19h45 Cruising hours. Cards out, the whole house is yours.21h30 Last orders on conversation. One last dance, swap numbers, and a South African goodbye near the door. What to wearCasual or peacock! Come as you are, or peacock by wearing a conversation starter. Peacock items usually stand out, like a big hat, a bowtie, PJs, or a bondage item. (Not full bondage, you lil freak! That's a different night, okay!) AccessFruition House has no wheelchair access, regrettably. It's on the first floor, and there are 2 steps to the bathroom. Is this cruising cruising?Mostly the talking kind. Clothes stay on, kisses happen only with a clear yes, and the vibes stay chilled. Do I have to cuddle? No. Every cuddle starts with a question, and "no" is a complete answer. You can change your mind at any point, and you can also sit on the side and still be in the swirl of connection without touch. Do I have to answer every question? No. Pick another category or say you're not up for chats right now. All is valid. I'm neurodivergent. How will this feel? The cards give every conversation a script to start from, so there's no guessing at small talk. You can pass on any question, leave any conversation, and move at your own pace. If things ever feel confusing or overstimulating, come and find us and we'll support you! Do I need to be nonmonogamous? No. Queer, curious,…
