Autumnal Equinox Book Swap @The Ink Drinker
About the event
Every autumn (normally in September, but October for this year), in celebration of the solstice, we host a book swap as an add-on activity to our regular silent reading party! Bring not only a book to read as usual, but also any books to donate — new, used, and well-loved books are welcome! We'll describe the mechanics of the book swap at the event, but essentially we make it a game following two major principles: 🎲 ♦️
1. Choice: You get to pick which book(s) you want to swap your donation(s) with. 2. Advantage: The more books you bring to donate, the earlier you'll get to choose which books YOU take home from the shared collection.
While donated books are being organized, settle into a peaceful and cozy space to read with fellow book lovers.
📅 Event Schedule ⏳ 7:15 - 7:30 → Arrive, settle in, and purchase a beverage - please support our host venue! ***Arriving after 7:30 pm may not ensure optimal or available seating.*** 📖 \~7:45 - \~8:00 PM → Introduce yourself (name+location, what you’re reading). 🤫 \~8:00 - 9:00 PM → Silent reading time. 🤔 \~9:00 - 9:30 PM → Book Swap! 🍾 9:00 PM onwards → Optional social time.
🔹 RSVP & Event Guidelines ✔ No assigned reading – Bring any book you’re currently enjoying (physical, e-reader, or audiobook with headphones). ✔ RSVP REQUIRED – To help us coordinate space and seating, please RSVP. It's ideal to arrive as close to 6:30 pm as possible for optimal+available seating. We are currently capping RSVPs at 75 to account for the usual number of no-shows - this may be adjusted in the future as we get a better idea of what the typical attendance is like. ✔ Feeling unwell?
