Claude Monet’s letters – to his friends, family, fellow artists, patrons and gallerists – offer an unmatched glimpse into the artist’s life. Honest and deeply personal, they reveal his passions, anxieties and frank opinions, and expand our view of his working life and practice. Published by Thames & Hudson to mark the centenary of the artist’s death, ‘Claude Monet: A Life in Letters’ provides an extraordinary insight into the artist’s creative process, from his formative years to fame at the end of his life. Join Teresa Krasny and Karen Serres, two of the editors of this first major English-language publication dedicated to Monet’s writings, as they discuss his intimate personal reflections, his relationships with colleagues and artists such as Pierre-Auguste Renoir, his feelings about his family, and his work. They are joined in conversation by Christopher Riopelle, curator of our current exhibition ‘Renoir and Love’.
