Is this your event?About the event
the river knows every stone is a four-part reading programme in which we reflect on art, curating and writing with the seas and archipelagos as a navigational frame.
The first two sessions—berth and unmoor—will take place on 7 Nov and 21 Nov respectively. The following two sessions are slated for Jan-Feb 2027. Participants need not commit to attending all four sessions.
In berth, the first session, we parse texts on geopoetic curating, by curator and art historian Patrick Flores, and an essay by anthropologist Jan Mrazek reflecting on the work of Indonesian maritime historian Adrian Lapian and his epistemology approach as informed by his experience on ship decks. As interlocutors are the artists and curators from the exhibition Jantung Pisang: Laut & Barat (Heart of the Banana Tree; of the Sea and the West), recently on view at NAFA from 21 Aug to 5 Sep 2026. The exhibition looks at the flower, the fruit, and the mythos of the banana tree in lands oceans apart, drawing connections across seas and time.
Participants are encouraged to read the primary readings, and to come with their own writing devices i.e. tablet, smartphone, pen and paper. The session will be interspersed with discussions to deepen and develop our individual and collective practices, whether artistic or otherwise.
This reading programme was produced with support from Art Linguistics and BV Initiatives, with Kamiliah Bahdar and Eunice Lacaste being the grant recipients of “Faceted Women in the Arts” 2026, an initiative by Art Linguistics.
With community and outreach support by The Artists Village’s Art History Klub (TAV-AHK)

While the studio is reconfigured through a shifting constellation of practitioners under each project, it is committed to building long-term relationships…
