A journey to the land of Oz
Dorothy Gale lives with her uncle and aunt on a farm in Kansas. When a tornado strikes the farm, she lands in the magical land of Oz. There she meets witches, dwarves, and wizards. The only one who can help her return home is the Wizard of Oz. Dorothy travels along the yellow brick road to his castle, together with three unexpected friends: The Scarecrow, The Tin Man, and The Cowardly Lion.
A film with history
The Wizard of Oz is one of the great MGM musicals of the 1930s. Director Victor Fleming chose sepia tones for the realistic part of the story. He filmed the scenes in Oz in brilliant Technicolor. The film is on the UNESCO Memory of the World Register. For the then 16-year-old Judy Garland, this film was her big breakthrough.
