About the event

During the twentieth century, women came to dominate the field of textile design, developing new products and techniques despite frequent barriers in education and the business world. Victoria Bradley and Elizabeth Currie, authors of the new publication Women Textile Designers (Thames & Hudson/V&A), will be joined by Harriet Wallace-Jones and Emma Sewell to discuss their career paths as well as broader themes relating to women’s experiences in design. Established over three decades ago, the UK-based studio Wallace Sewell has achieved international acclaim for its innovative use of colour, structure and yarn, merging traditional craft with modern manufacture to push the boundaries of textile design. The studio is perhaps best known for shaping the visual identity of Transport for London (TfL) through a series of bold, contemporary moquette designs, most notably the iconic Barman moquette, which has become synonymous with seating across the TfL network.
