Bavaria by Loose Canon Arts
About the event
Expect the unexpected in this bold and theatrical performance from Loose Canon Arts. Reimagining the classic Bluebeard tale through cabaret, opera, poetry and physical comedy, Bavaria delivers a playful mix of spectacle, humour and storytelling. Equal parts absurd and captivating, the show embraces Oxford Street's tradition of creative expression and boundary-pushing performance while offering audiences a uniquely entertaining live experience. Artist statement: Bavaria is a two-person reimagining of the famous folktale Bluebeard. Leaning into the inherent campness of a revenge retelling, the performance works all the camp angles: opera, cabaret, melodrama, earnest spoken word and rare expressions of folk dancing. There’ll be lederhosen and alpine hats. There’ll be castles and cobwebs. There’ll be dungeons and blood. And perhaps there’ll even be a little bit of poo. Audience guide: Comical references to murder, faeces, kinky sex and violence. Not suitable for children. Artist bio: Loose Canon Arts is a Sydney-based company founded by Liesel Badorrek last century. For many years, the company toured schools and public performances throughout Asia and the Middle East as well as creating public productions for venues and festivals in Australia. The company created many bespoke performance works for public events and festivals for the City of Sydney and continues to create works of cabaret and performance. Loose Canon is a fluid company with multiple collaborators. Bavaria is created by Liesel Badorrek and performed by Liesel Badorrek and Thomas Campbell.
