Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)

An actor famed for his role as a superhero decides to resuscitate his creativity by directing an adaptation of a Raymond Carver short story, but is soon beset by all manner of problems. Keaton gives a dazzling performance as a man nearing the precipice of sanity. He’s supported by a superb stellar cast, while Iñárritu’s roving camera – deceptively presented as a single-take – helped earn the filmmaker his first Academy Award for Best Director, Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay, as well as Best Cinematography for Emmanuel ‘Chivo’ Lubezki.
