Great Pianists: András Schiff & Evgeny Kissin
About the event
Two greats, one stage: András Schiff and Evgeny Kissin join forces in a unique recital on two grand pianos. Schiff brings his noble refinement, transparency, and singing lyricism; Kissin adds his monumental technique and epic expressiveness. Their program, featuring works from Mozart to Dvořák, reveals music in its most intimate and compelling form. András Schiff & Evgeny Kissin
András Schiff, Hungarian, noble: master of refinement, of analytical insight, but with warmth and lyricism. His playing sings and is exceptionally transparent. Evgeny Kissin, Russian, serious: emotionally charged performance artist, without becoming dramatic. Kissin possesses monumental technique; his storylines behind the piano have an epic character. Two of the greatest pianists of the moment together in one recital: brace yourself.
From Mozart to Dvořák
With two pianos, the possibilities also double. With music for twenty fingers, symphonies could be brought into the living room, but unspoken feelings could also be shared. Mozart wrote his Sonata, KV 448, to play together with his pupil Josephine Auernhammer, who was two years younger; Clara Schumann regularly performed Robert's Andante and Variations with her beloved friend Johannes Brahms. Sometimes commercial motives aided the inspiration: publisher Simrock constantly asked Dvořák for new Slavonic Dances, and they sold like hotcakes.
