Grachtenfestival: The Counterpoints
About the event
The Counterpoints — recorder player Thomas Triesschijn and harpsichordist Aljosja Mietus — perform Baroque music by Dutch and Italian masters such as Sweelinck and Corelli. Around the largest scale model of Amsterdam, the story of the city in the 17th and 18th centuries unfolds. Music, visuals, and history come together in this concert by InMotion and The Counterpoints. Baroque music by Dutch and Italian masters The Counterpoints take you into the world of the Baroque. The duo plays music by Sweelinck, Corelli, and other Dutch and Italian masters. Dutch composers take center stage, alongside Italian music that found its way throughout Europe via Amsterdam publishers. The program is varied: dances, variations, and sonatas alternate. Sweelinck as a starting point The improvisations of Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck and his influential style form the starting point of the program. In this way, The Counterpoints connect past and present in a natural manner. Music, visual arts and the city in the 17th and 18th centuries The concert takes place around the largest scale model of Amsterdam. That model tells the story of the city in the 17th and 18th centuries. Music, visuals, and history come together in a single experience, organized by InMotion and The Counterpoints.
