Turma Capital: Dub, Sound System and Vinyl

An introduction to reggae's Jamaican origins and global expansion, exploring the aesthetics and cultural practices of sound system culture and vinyl as a format. The course traces Dub's foundational influence on rap, electronic music and modern production techniques. It also examines how sound system culture developed and strengthened in Brazilian urban peripheries as an artistic, social and community expression. Sessions feature historical references, curated listening, vinyl pressing and turntable fundamentals, basic sound structure concepts, and analysis of sound system's social, political, geographic and cultural role as a tool for popular expression, communication, resistance and collective building.
