Mike van Graan has developed an engaging format for contemporary social commentary through solo, multi-sketch satirical works that combine drama, comedy, song and poetry performed by a talented young performer. With the forthcoming local government elections, Family Meeting follows in that tradition, encouraging audiences to think and reflect even as they laugh out loud. An hour of welcome catharsis. In the tradition of the multiple award-winning My Fellow South Africans and its equally acclaimed Pay Back the Curry and Bafana Republic predecessors, Family Meeting is a solo multi-sketch satirical revue that combines drama, comedy, poetry and song with sharp contemporary social commentary. With the forthcoming local government elections, Family Meeting will again provoke, challenge and entertain with the highly talented Awethu Hleli performing a variety of sketches in this hour-long piece.
