In this time of marked polarization and economic insecurity, Living on the edge shows us what the real meaning of ‘living together’ is. This documentary takes the viewer inside the Social Market in Amsterdam-Noord, a historically working-class borough. The Social Marker is a place to shop and socialize, where precarity is not expressed in numbers but defined by people, their stories and compassion. Born from collaborative efforts of the local food bank, a community support centre, the Salvation Army and the local Protestant Church, the Social Market is a place where clients can not only pick up free groceries, but can also get help, find a listening ear, a smile and feel a sense of belonging.
