Dupree, Feng, La Marca and Steckel with Schumann, Mozart and Mahler
About the event
Four great musicians, one unique interplay. Pianist Frank Dupree, violinist Ning Feng, violist Adrien La Marca, and cellist Julian Steckel bring three piano quartets to the Kleine Zaal. The contributions by Schumann and the young Mahler are emotional experiments for which Mozart's masterpiece in G minor set the tone. Dupree, Feng, La Marca and Steckel
Let's list them briefly: Frank Dupree, pianist, conductor, and member of his own Frank Dupree Trio, which blurs the boundaries between classical and jazz. Ning Feng enchants his listeners with his virtuosic, lyrical playing. 'Absolutely a pure talent,' writes Le Monde about violist Adrien La Marca. Cellist Julian Steckel: 'As a performer, I have come to rely more on my inner life and allow the audience in more. It is a kind of vulnerability that makes you stronger.' This line-up of musicians performing the best works of Schumann, Mozart, and Mahler is guaranteed to make for a wonderful evening.
Schumann, Mozart and Mahler
The piano quartet—of which there are not many—features an ideal balance between the strings and the keyboard; the great composers delivered top performances in this genre. The contributions of Schumann and the young Mahler were emotional experiments for which Mozart's masterpiece in G minor had set the tone. Mahler chose a minor key of a surprisingly serious color, while Schumann's warm E-flat major quartet combines romantic lyricism with Baroque counterpoint. All three works demonstrate the strength of the atmosphere created when the glow of the viola is added to a piano trio.
