Play Saturdays (Sept-Dec 2026)
About the event
Join us for FREE, drop-in sessions for families at Young V&A! Explore exciting play adventures with our friendly team of Play Champions in our interactive galleries and on Town Square. Activities change regularly, rotating between our Play, Imagine and Design Galleries. On Saturday 17th October, Join us for a Play Saturday Chess Extravaganza! We’re delighted to welcome local chess player and teacher Satnam Sokhal, who will be joining our Play Champions to share his passion for the game with visitors of all ages. There will be plenty of chess sets available for everyone to enjoy, including a giant chess set for those who want to think big and make their moves in style! Our younger visitors can join in too, with a special black-and-white play kit designed especially for early years children. Whether you're a complete beginner, a seasoned player, or simply curious to discover what chess is all about, we’d love to welcome you and your family for a fun-filled afternoon of strategy, learning, and play. About Satnam Satnam has played chess since the age of nine. He went to a local Tower Hamlets school where chess was part of the curriculum. As he progressed he was called to play for East London challenging a variety of counties around the UK. Satnam loves teaching and exposing chess to children and adults alike. We are delighted to welcome him to Play Saturdays at Young V&A. All our events are family activities, where adults are required to participate alongside their children. This activity is part of Young V&A’s Power of Play programme. The Power of Play is a collective impact consortium to bring quality learning-through-play to children in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. The project is funded by the LEGO Foundation and coordinated by the LEGO Group in London. Young V&A is participating in the project alongside the Institute of Imagination, Save the Children and EasyPeasy and Ambition Aspire Achieve.
