Double Indemnity
About the event
Wilder’s controversial breakout hit relishes in its moral quagmire, pairing unabashedly hard-boiled dialogue with oozing sex appeal and deliciously sordid surroundings. When salesman Walter crosses paths with bored housewife Phyllis, he kickstarts a spiral into ruin that ups the suspense and drove audiences wild. A step too far for Wilder’s regular, more clean-cut co-writer Charles Brackett, novelist Raymond Chandler stepped in as the perfect partner in crime to adapt James M. Cain’s novel. New 35mm print made with funding from the National Lottery and the additional support of donors to our Keep Film on Film campaign. Courtesy of UCLA Film & Television Archive.
