Wagner’s Siegfried
About the event
The Orchestra of the Music Makers continues with the Singaporean premiere of the third instalment of Wagner's Ring Cycle. Conductor Lü Shao-Chia, director Tan Shou Chen, and a cast of internationally acclaimed singers, several of whom return to reprise their roles, bring Wagner's epic vision to life. Richard Wagner's Ring Cycle stands as one of Western opera's most ambitious undertakings—four works that reimagine Norse and Germanic mythology. Composed over three decades, the cycle demands extraordinary forces and stamina from both performers and audiences, but rewards them with some of the most transformative music ever written. In Siegfried, a young hero reforges his father's broken sword and slays a dragon to claim a ring of power. He discovers a warrior woman trapped in an enchanted sleep, surrounded by flames. Only someone truly fearless can reach her—and Siegfried has never learned what fear means. When he wakes her with a kiss, she surrenders her immortality for love. A semi-staged production sung in German with English surtitles.
