Writing Workshop: Writing Fantasy and Magical Realism

About the workshop Come and write with us at our writing workshop on fantasy and magical realism. Along the way, screenwriter Trine Appel will talk about the difference between fantasy and magical realism and her work on the trilogy 'Ildfuglen'. You will do writing exercises based on world building, concept, and character gallery. In addition, Trine Appel will talk about credibility and personality in writing, as well as the art of figuring out what your story is really about, what the personal theme is, even when writing in a specific genre. About the instructor Trine Appel is a trained actress from Statens teaterskole and a screenwriter from Den danske filmskole. She has written 6 novels, of which 4 are magical realism with Danish history as the focal point. She has written screenplays for films and TV series, including: Dag og nat, season 2 TV2, Min nye søster, DR, C.4 – den sidste rejse, feature film. Soon she will be current with a short film, which she has written and directed herself. She is currently working on a new novel series. Writing Workshops Every month, Københavns Biblioteker invites you to writing workshops all over the city. The themes and instructors vary. Our writing workshops are not courses, but standalone workshops of two hours' duration, where the instructors give presentations and give participants writing exercises. Practical info The writing workshop is aimed at adults. Participation is free, but requires registration on Billetto. The writing workshop takes place at Christianshavns Bibliotek. We do not provide computers, so bring your own and/or paper and pen. There is very limited table space, so you will probably have to sit with the computer/paper on your lap. We offer a writing board, which you can use as an underlay for your notebook/paper. There is a water station and a coffee machine on the 4th floor, but otherwise we cannot offer provisions. Bring your own water bottle or a bottle for water. Directions The writing workshop takes place in the room Othello at Christianshavns Bibliotek. From the entrance, you can find Othello in the following way: Follow the wall on the right hand side into the library room itself, and turn at the first corner. Othello is located as a side room to the library room, but can easily be seen if you continue following the right wall. Do you have questions?
