Next we will discuss Dune Messiah in early December in anticipation of the release of the movie adaptation of it (Dune: Part 3) on December 18th.
Synopsis: Paul Atreides, the sole surviving heir of a destroyed noble house, takes refuge among the Fremen of Arrakis, the desert people whose water-disciplined culture and messianic prophecies he must navigate as both outsider and potential savior. Alongside Chani, a Fremen warrior who loves him but distrusts the religious fervor gathering around him, Paul trains in the ways of the deep desert, learns to ride the sandworms, and joins guerrilla raids against the Harkonnen spice harvesters that sustain the Imperium's economy. His mother Jessica, meanwhile, takes on the role of Reverend Mother and works to seed and amplify the prophecy that casts her son as the foretold Lisan al-Gaib. As Paul's visions of a galaxy-wide holy war grow harder to dismiss, he faces a choice between the revenge and power available to him and the catastrophe he can see following from it. Denis Villeneuve's adaptation covers the second half of Frank Herbert's 1965 novel, culminating in a confrontation with the Emperor, the sadistic Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, and the machinery of empire itself.
