Matcha without milk: From the samurai’s art of tea to an elegant urban indulgence.
During the hot summer, we see lines forming outside cafés: the Viennese want to cool off with a strawberry matcha latte...;-)
But what are the origins of this trend?
Matcha is ground, whisked green tea that arrived on the shores of Japan from China 1,000 years ago. During the Muromachi period, it became the cult drink of the samurai warriors and the noble elite.
Michaela Scheda and Dr. Sven Schwannberger will give an introduction for Vienna Tea Lovers: What makes good matcha? What varieties are there? Which matcha might be best avoided?
What are the traditional ways to prepare it: thin tea? Thick tea?
How do I make a delicious bowl of matcha myself?
Let’s give it a try!
