Let’s Talk Humanities: Does AI Love Me Back?
About the event
In an age of increasing loneliness, a growing number of people are using artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots for companionship and romantic intimacy. But what do we lose when our sense of connection comes from interacting with a robot? And what is at stake for society at large when we outsource our relationships to technology? Join us for a discussion with three experts: - Wendy H. Wong, Professor of Political Science at UBC Okanagan and author of the award-winning book We, the Data. - Kimberley Brownlee, Canada Research Chair in Ethics and Political & Social Philosophy at UBC. - Victoria Hetherington, author of The Friend Machine and host of the CBC podcast Understood: Artificial Intimacy. -- Let’s Talk Humanities is a program series in collaboration with the UBC Public Humanities Hub, bringing UBC scholars who study society and culture to library stages. The discussions aim to illuminate pressing social and political issues. All are welcome!
